"That's Dean. Now, he could start a fight in an empty house, but deep down inside, he's just a big ol' teddy bear."
Dean Winchester is a bit on the brash side. He says what comes to mind and doesn't sugarcoat it. It makes him come off as a bit hostile at times and a bit of a jerk at others. Don't ask him his opinion because he'll give it. Often times, it's a bit on the negative side. It also makes him a bit combative when there's disagreement or hostility aimed his way, but he means well.
"I died for a year, came back, and you're still not funny."
Dean is a smartass by nature. Sass is just his normal state of being. He doesn't hold back when it comes to his sarcasm, even if it might bruise some egos or hurt some feelings. Along with the sass, he likes to prank his brother on good days and just straight up harass him on bad ones. Unfortunately, most don't appreciate his humour or puns. Neither do they appreciate his pranks. He doesn't know when to quit. He's also the king of one-liners and coining catchphrases. Dean is a bit on the childish side, which comes through often in his sass.
"Though you may be a stubborn pain in the arse with the manners of a Neanderthal and the dining habits of a toddler, everything you've done you've done for the greater good."
He isn't the sharpest and admits it freely. Dean's intelligence relies mostly on street smarts. Along with a lack of book-smarts, he is somewhat emotionally stupid. He represses a lot of his emotions, having grown up with a father that was gruff and also terrible at dealing with his feelings. That makes it difficult for him to gauge other people's emotions. Feelings make him uncomfortable and expressing them is even more uncomfortable to him. He does try to be understanding with others if they're in need of brotherly guidance.
"I told you. He's an angry sleeper. Like a bear."
He claims he's never afraid, but that isn't exactly true. He tends to barrel into situations with very basic plans. Often, "Don't die" is Plan A and he improvises from there. He does tend to have nerves of steel, but there are certain things that can crack that exterior. First and foremost is family. He's co-dependant on his brother, which causes the majority of their problems. This makes him truly afraid when something is threatening Sam.
"Maybe you should try plan D for Dumbass."
Dean is loyal to a fault. To his family, his cause, the people he cares about. He will fight Heaven and Hell for them and has even traded his life for family. Even when things aren't strictly black and white, he sticks to his guns and what feels right without letting anything get in his way.
"You don't think you deserve to be saved."
While Dean acts suave and self-important, he really doesn't love himself. It rattled him deeply when he was pulled from Hell by Castiel. He didn't understand why the angels felt the need to save him of all people. He harbours a lot of guilt and self-hate over things he's done and things he doesn't think he deserves. He also has trouble accepting that good things happen. Because of that, he refuses to accept that God exists or that he cares. He'd rather think God didn't exist than to think God does and just doesn't give a crap about the world.
"I guess that's what I do. I let down the people I love."
Dean is a bit obsessed with "classic rock", action movies, and his car. The very car he influenced his father to get before he was even born. Yay time travel paradoxes! He also has a bit of a sweet tooth, loving pie above most other foods. He tends to enjoy greasy foods that aren't the best for you. Not to the extent Death does, but he has a strong love for food. But he has a phobia of flying.
"A wise man once told me, 'Family don't end in blood'."
He's good with kids, connecting with them easily. He shows a fatherly side that might be surprising given his upbringing and emotionally distant father. It's likely caused by that upbringing, not wanting to be like his father, despite how much he respected him. He was great with Ben and didn't even show an ounce of care that the kid wasn't his. He treated him like blood. He's protective of kids and shows that multiple times throughout his life.
"Your problem is no one hates you more than you do."
Dean is a flirt. He radiates confidence and knows he's attractive. He's never looking for anything serious and he makes sure that's known. He doesn't take advantage of women, but he sure does lay on the charm. He doesn't find it easy to trust anyone, so it leaves relationships out of the question. He's also lost enough loved ones in his life that he seems to try very hard not to get too attached to anyone outside of family.
"Ah. Guess I've been Winchestered."
Morally, Dean just wants to protect people from monsters. It's as simple as that to him. While he has a tough time accepting a monster can be anything but a monster, he recently learned, in his canon point, to trust a vampire named Benny. He has an on-again, off-again tolerant relationship with the King of Hell, Crowley. His best friend is an angel. His morals have driven him into a dark place a time or two, but he believes what they do is for the better of humanity. He'll find himself working on and off with monsters for the greater good.
